Fishing on the Tweed

River Tweed catch

River Tweed catch

What are the chances of taking your camera down to the riverbank and coming across the only salmon being landed on the Tweed that day?
Well, exactly this happened at the start of the fishing season this year. Earlston pupil Cailean Fraser who's been taking some photos for this site, chanced upon a local fisherman, new to the sport, catching his first-ever salmon. This eight pounder was only the second spring salmon to be landed on the Drygrange beat this season (three 'Kelts' have been thrown back in). The water was 3ft high and the fly a gold Willie Gunn.
The fisherman, the ghillie, the photographer and this writer are all pretty happy about the catch of the day.
