Burts Hotel, Melrose

Burts Hotel, Melrose

If you're local or have been visiting Melrose for years you'll notice that Burts is eternal, it never seems to externally change in any way.
This is probably because the owners seem to be eternal too tho', if you look closely, son Nick is now more prominent than his folks. This family run the place efficiently and have a great ability to choose some of the best chefs in the area.
The decor is a bit on the traditional side, but it seems to suit the place: tweedy rather than tartan, log fires to warm you, there's a cosy appeal in such a place.
Staff have moved continents from many years of the friendliest Antipodeans (the boss married one to prove a point!) to the closer eastern bloc so please if you know Polish at all go armed to make them feel as welcome as they will make you.
Chicken goujons or a decent steak are a must in this establishment, but if you're a vegi we can assure you the alternatives are adventurous.
Hand on heart 'tis worthwhile.
