Galleries! There are 'hunreds' (sic), well ok, maybe not hundreds but plenty to keep you gazing for a while.
'Discovered an interesting looking one recently in Innerleithen and sheepishly confess to not remembering the name, but it's opposite the co-op, and has some mesmerising prints of hares and some bright felt collages of cockerels in the window. It was closed so saw no further... could well be worth a look.

On the subject of mesmerising, the lady who owns the marvellous Smokehouse Gallery in Eyemouth is just that. Jennifer is not only dedicated to promoting art in the Borders, but she promotes the place generously too tho' she doesn't live here.
If you look at our theatre section you'll see that Bill Wyman was drawn to support The Eastgate in Peebles last year.
Well, Jennifer persuaded the great John Bellany (originally from Eyemouth) to display some of his paintings in the gallery. Not quite Wyman, but, in Scottish terms of great art, nearly.
Many of the paintings there relate to the town's working harbour and the unrivalled coastline around St. Abb's. More recently The Smokehouse has been giving space to talented inland artists such as Lyn Rodgie of St. Boswells who is modestly rising to higher eschelons.
If you love art you'll love The Smokehouse Gallery.

Then there's The Flat Cat Gallery in Lauder. You can't miss it - there really is a flat cat splattered on the wall beside the main door. Before animal rights get in touch, it's not real, honest (but so good someone nicked tha last one!).
When you go in smell the coffee, follow your nose, agonise over whether to have gooey meringues or frangipani cake. Sit down. Mmmm maybe this is fine.
Then you notice the art. Pretty seriously good art. So after you've revelled in the edible goodies you take a look around and see there's more appealing art, and if it all seems a bit pricey, there are reasonably priced nick nacks (from Selkirk to remarkable further flung places)and original cards.
