Remember we told you that Kate Adie was coming to town? Well, she captivated a full house at the Melrose Corn Exchange on 26 November with a talk based mainly on danger and her fascination with people who do dangerous jobs. This is the subject she had researched closely for her latest book Into Danger.

The talk, sponsored by The Borders Book Festival and Mainstreet Trading of St. Boswells, was a successful foray into the winter season by an event, that, by tradition, usually brightens up the wettest weekend of summer.

It didn't rain, it didn't even snow, and Miss Adie, a soft very likeable version of the steely persona we've witnessed covering the first Gulf War, conflicts in the Balkans, and lesser but no less dangerous troubles at home and abroad, positively shone.

Thank you for bringing us that winter sunshine Kate.
