Baxters, Selkirk

Baxters, Selkirk

After dinner sit a while
After supper walk a mile

These words pleasantly greet you as you enter Baxters, the new coffee shop and restaurant in Selkirk.

In the former Selkirk Glass factory this place exudes quality with a fair emphasis on local produce. Border meringues from Morebattle are stacked high at the door as you walk into the shop and Dalgety's Selkirk bannock and black bun (from just up the road) are also on offer 'midst the quirky china and whisky galore.

The food lives up to the quality of the place - staff are as friendly as those we grew to love at Selkirk Glass. Baked tatties brim over with luxuriant and very tasty fillings and watch out as this place grows to fill its 'restaurant' shoes.

Don't take the poem too seriously because if you do go there in the evening you will seriously have to walk a mile because the doors will be locked! Plans are afoot, however, to have special evening events with food accompanied by music/storytelling and other goings on. We'll let you know as soon as this happens... The coffee is excellent just as you'd expect from a long-established family firm that have made their name from quality, and it's interesting that you can buy bargain six packs of Baxters soups in the shop - well what else would you expect?

It's refreshing to see an interior that wanders away from magnolia with warm pampering reds and purples soothing the walls. It feels a little dark in spite of the expanse of windows due to the black ceiling. This subdued ambience will be just perfect for these evening events.
