Mainstreet Trading Cafe
At last it's open. After months of speculation, the wraps are off the Mainstreet Trading windows in St. Boswells and a bright new coffee and bookshop has emerged.
It's vast! This place now takes pride of place as provider of the most delicious coffee in the Scottish Borders. The hefty aroma wafts down the High Street as you wander up past the Co-op and after you've waited a while for coffee you'll realise the journey has been worthwhile.
The soup choice on the day we were there was refreshingly original - tomato, cumin and fig or carrot and ginger.
There's an original selection of sandwiches such as honey roast ham with leek jam (guess that's a bit like onion jam but leeky)and grilled vegis with roasted feta cheese.
The cakes are very home made with a groaning coffee and walnut sponge taking pride of place with giant scones also part of the inviting baked goodies collection.
Then books - it's great to see more than a small corner devoted to children's books with a wide selection of cookery and gardening books to tempt adults.
There's a novel selection as you wander into the final section of this sprawling property from the fun 'This book will save your life' by A.H.Homes to the age old favourite 'Swallows and Amazons' with a fair leaning towards Scottishism in many of the other book choices.
Small gifts, antiques and deckadent (sic) chairs for sale too. The wrapping paper's too good to wrap pressies with.
From a lady who was involved in the discovery of Harry Potter and her husband who is a 'bit of a cook' we have to say this place is wizard. Enjoy! There's parking behind Mainstreet by the way.
