Bag a red one today!

Grab your Christmas edition of the Bag for the Borders to carry all your Christmas goodies! Look out for the distinctive red bags which are being distributed free in your local independent shops. Following the popular Bag for the Borders launched earlier in the year, Scottish Borders Council has produced a festive coloured bag based on the same design especially for Christmas.

“This is an incredibly busy time of year for local retailers in the run up to Christmas. The Shop Local campaign delivered in conjunction with Radio Borders, aims to encourage locals to do as much of their Christmas shopping in the Scottish Borders, whether it’s Christmas gifts or food and drink for the festive season”, said Councillor Vicky Davidson, Executive Member for Economic Development at Scottish Borders Council.

“With competition from various sources – city centres, out of centre shopping malls, large supermarkets and the internet, our small independent shops locally are finding it harder and harder. If we want to retain the uniqueness and character of our Borders towns and ensure vibrant town centres, we need to support our local shops. They are a key factor in providing services for all those in the community, as well as an important tourism offering for visitors to the area. Many visitors remark on the great range and variety of independent shops.”

Do your bit for our environment and support your local retailers - why not Grab your Bag for the Borders?!
