Old Gala House opens a new exhibition in the Pringle Room from 6.30 pm to 8 pm, 13 May to 19 June 2011.

Venue: Old Gala House, Scott Crescent, Galashiels, TD1 3JS

Local artist Carol Norris is taking the Pringle Room by storm this May by hosting her first individual art show ‘Small Works’. A member of the Scottish Society of Artists and Crossing Borders, Carol is a former student at the Edinburgh College of Art. She works in a variety of media and subjects and has had her work exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy.

Phoebe Lowe, assistant curator, said: "Carol has produced a real eclectic mix of work that encompasses a variety of media and subjects which will most definitely be enjoyed by all who come along to the exhibition."

Then there's The Flat Cat Gallery in Lauder. You can't miss it - there really is a flat cat splattered on the wall beside the main door. Not a real one, honest (but so good someone nicked tha last one!).

When you go in smell the coffee, follow your nose, agonise over whether to have gooey meringues or frangipani cake. Sit down. Mmmm maybe this is fine.

Then you notice the art. Seriously good. So after you've revelled in the edible goodies you take a look around and see there's more appealing art, and if it all seems a bit pricey, there are reasonably priced nick nacks (from Selkirk to remarkable further flung places) and original cards.
