Quins, Galashiels
Quins in Galashiels (by Tesco Superstore) is an eating place that gets it right at all levels. It's just fine for a cuppa (and home made cake) in the morning, a tasty reasonably-priced lunch with home made puddings, and reliably delicious dinner in the evenings.
Partners Sylvia Scott and chef Stephen Boggs didn't stumble upon this place by chance. The location is well-thought out with the merging of a former restaurant combined with its neighbour, a coffee shop.
Sylvia honed her skills in The Waggon and the Mayfield Garden Centre, Kelso followed by worthwhile stints in The Kingsknowe Hotel, Gala, and the Carters' Rest in Jedburgh. All along the way her standards have attracted foodies and with chef partner Stephen's catering skills make for a winning formula.
The decor is tasteful, and wooden rather than clattery laminate floors make the place feel homely. The loos are shiny clean too - that's always a good sign!
